Although we want students to score well on assessments in school, we know it is not the grade a student receives on a paper, project, or report card that indicates the level of success he/she will have.
Paul Tough says that one of the main indicators of student success in life is the ability to stick-to and persevere through a task (How Children Succeed). Gifted children often see the environment of traditional school as not challenging or stimulating; as "too easy." However when faced with challenges, their true aptitude for success is developed. Incorporating manipulative brain games into my classroom will be one way to help these students develop the flexible pathways and stick-to-it-iveness they will need when faced with challenges in life. Being challenged by the hands-on manipulatives they receive will aid students in building that growth-mindset. They will build their confidence as problem solvers and flexible thinkers which will build their stamina toward perseverance and success in the real world.
