I want to be able to give my students a comfortable space to escape and read a good book. Many children are often consumed with social media, video games, and television. That is why I am trying to create a "Reader's Lounge" in my classroom. Our Reader's Lounge will offer comfortable sitting options and best of all.... plenty of BOOKS! In order to make my goal happen, I need to be able to organize the books into containers according to genre and student interests. I want the students to be able to pick a book title or book series that piques their interest. I want them to be able to get lost in their book selections and let their imaginations soar!
Your donation to our project will not only help our students become stronger readers, but you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. "A study of K-12 student reading habits demonstrated that six extra minutes of reading per day can turn a struggling reader into one who meets or surpasses their grade’s benchmark. Those students who read 15 minutes or more per day—about 46% of students—made accelerated reading gains." With your help, I will be able to reverse the data that plagues many of our youth in low-income neighborhoods. "Today a reader. Tomorrow a leader"- Margaret Fuller
