Through this fictionalize autobiography of Yoko, an eleven year old Japanese girl, students will gain a clearer understanding of the conflicts and survival of people during war time .Students will learn about Korea and Japan as they follow the journey of the family fleeing from their home in Korea to return to their homeland of Japan.
Students will examine the following questions:
What makes people a family?
What is the responsibility of the individual within the family?
How do families resolve difficult situations?
What are the consequences of staying together or breaking apart for individuals within the family, and for the larger society?
What constitutes family allegiance?
