After teaching for 28 years, I am diving into Lucy Culkins’ Readers and Writers workshops. There is so much research supporting these approaches to reading and writing and kids are WAY more engaged in their own learning. After my initial training, I have been listening to every podcast I can to prepare. I know a need a system to record what kids need during conferring and small group. One podcast said that to collect data for conferring, I should use a tablet with a note taking app in order to organize my observations and better personalize my students’ learning. I would use the tablet to let my students know how they are progressing on standards and what they still need to work on! I am beyond excited to try this approach to reading and writing!!!
