Student goals for my 5th grade are to increase reading stamina, increase time on-task, and develop STEM knowledge and interest.
To get the win in these three areas, we first need an inviting classroom library with flexible seating and amazing books. Students read books of their choice up to 30 minutes (sustained) each day. We see success when students ask for, "5 more minutes please!"
Fifth grade is the big science year. Students look forward to the simple machines project in the spring. I look to expand the tools for this project each year. Reluctant scholars will eagerly engage if given good materials as evidenced last year when a troubled student constructed a Lego car with a pullback mechanism and demonstrated force and resistance.
