Collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication are all skills learned and practiced through making music. Music is instrumental! This project will provide students with handheld percussion instruments to enhance an already strong and active music program at my elementary school.
Handheld percussion instruments--including tambourines, wood blocks, cowbells, and more--will be used by the 750+ students in classes from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grades. Our 4th and 5th grade percussion ensemble performing group will also use them in practice and in concert.
Playing guiros, cymbals, cabasas, and other instruments will enhance vocal performances, add sound effects to stories, and will teach and support skills such as steady beat (which, in turn, positively effects reading fluency) and rhythm.
