If we were able to have these reading centers, students without internet and the support to have their reading assignment read to them, can listen to their assigned readings and can participate in the classroom discussions.
Giving my students the opportunity to follow along will not only help with their ability to participate in the discussions it will help with their comprehension, fluency and self confidence. I can work with other students in small group instruction while other students listen and take notes on the reading assignments! I can move each group at the proper speed without leaving behind the students that need extra help. Having two listening stations gives the students freedom to choose between different books, covering similar themes.
