Movement and choice are two key aspects of learning. In our classroom students are empowered to make choices about the seating and work area that will help them to be successful learners. Providing flexible seating and a variety of work spaces for students to stand, wiggle, kneel, or sit comfortably will not only allow them to feel welcome in the classroom but will also give them space to focus on their learning.
By donating you will be providing work spaces to work independently, in small groups and as a whole group, and the option to kneel, stand, bounce, sit, or wiggle. In his 2008 study, Herman Miller from the National Training Laboratories found that “giving people some control over their surroundings adds to their sense of well-being.” This study also concluded that student choice and physical activity enhanced student learning.
