Having a Listening Center in my first-grade classroom would benefit the students in so many different ways. It would give them the opportunity to read a book that they may be interested in but might be too hard. This way they would not be discouraged. My students would get the chance to practice one-to-one correspondence, vocabulary, and fluency. They could then talk with a peer about what the story was about and feel confident talking about the book.
Listening to a story read to them while following along with a book would just be a great way for my students to get lost in a book. My students love when I do a read aloud so a listening center would be a great place for them to listen and engage in more books!
