Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students need help strengthening their foundational skills within literacy. As we use programs to help with this, they need reliable headphones and microphones to hear and to talk into so that I can assess where they are at. As an educator, I want my students to be reading high-interest books and materials that engage them. Both of the class booksets are enjoyable for fifth graders and introduce them to stories written in verse. The other books are engaging nonfiction texts for students to learn more about American and world history.
The two booksets ("Love That Dog" and "Hate That Cat") will cover this standard:
RL.5.7: Explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama, or poem.
Many students struggle with poetry standards, and these books are highly engaging and have older poems and newer poems!
The headphones will cover this standard:
RF.5.3: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
Students will be able to hear and speak into the computer for me to formatively assess their decoding skills.
The other nonfiction books cover these standards:
RI.5.10: By the end of the year, read and comprehend informational texts, including history/social studies, science, and technical texts, at the high end of the grades 4-5 text complexity band independently and proficiently.
SS.5.28: Analyze various maps to connect environmental, political, and cultural characteristics of a region and their influence on historical events in early American history.
The "I Survived" books show American and world historic events that have impacted history in general.
