My students with autism require frequent movement breaks throughout the day. They are able to work in about 10-20 increments at a time before having to get up and move. They have difficulties sitting on the carpet or in their chairs with out rocking, laying down or simply just standing up. Flexible seating will allow my students to stimulate their sense of touch allowing them to focus, stay on task and process information. Flexible seating will allow students to feel empowered by having some choice over their environment, it encourages and promotes collaboration and makes the learning environment much more fun and engaging. Flexible seating will create a positive learning environment.
