A handful of my students may struggle with mindfulness. Using their words and understanding their feelings is a vital skill needed in society. These materials will allow me to set up an area in the room where they can explore their emotions and the different outlets they can utilize to help manage their feelings.
By donating to our project you will help implement our class value of self-control as we will utilize the "Chill Out Zone" to live out the value of managing ourselves in order to maintain our class culture and ensure that we do not hinder the learning of our classroom community. Students will have the chance to explore a separate space that is comfortable and safe that they may not have at home and will be able to mimic for their families. Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not worry about not having a space to take a breather when things get tough.
The decorative materials ensure that our class community is welcoming, vibrant and full of their work, boosting confidence and positive recognition. My students are noticeably more engaged when they are challenged in a safe space and have interactive activities. The science kits and math trivia will allow for differentiated instruction where the students get to work on their kinesthetic learning styles.
