In a world filled with rigor and test prep, our youngest learners are spending more and more time completing worksheets, bubbling in test answers, and being assessed. In my developmentally appropriate Kindergarten classroom, I want to provide time every day for these little creative minds to explore, use their imaginations, and problem solve while using engaging materials. These requested resources will motivate and encourage the practice of science. My goal is for students to collaborate with a partner to collect information, investigate things moving in different ways, and observe and create a visual representation of their own object, all of which are science standards. 5-year-olds are not built for sitting still for long periods of time and being told what to learn and exactly how to learn it. They enjoy being "Engineers" and creating on their own terms. How I love watching and hearing the excitement of children engaged in play-based learning. They are not only problem solving, but learning to work with others, using fabulous vocabulary and improving self esteem.
