I hope to build a social emotional learning (SEL) library that covers a variety of topics, including emotion identification, self-regulation skills, social awareness, kindness, conflict resolution, celebrating differences, self-esteem, and many more! These books can be read during individual counseling, small groups, and whole group lessons. I have carefully read and screened over 200 books and chose stories that I felt were age-appropriate, relatable, and culturally relevant.
Student learning is optimal when social and emotional needs are being met. The SEL library will be a resource available to students and staff at my school. As I build the library, I hope to create short lesson plans that can accompany stories and easily be accessed by myself and teachers. Not only will these books help teach my students valuable social and emotional skills, but it will also help improve student literacy!
