At school, time is of the essence. With little ones in need of love and attention and so much to learn, there's no time to spare.
Last year, an issue that frequently disrupted our class flow was unfortunate but has a simple fix--a lack of supplies.
Headphones can be hard to manage as a 1st grader, but even harder when there are no more left or they don't fit in their small ears. The same issue occurred at carpet time as we practiced on marker boards. My hope is for students to have their own board and supplies with no need to take turns showing their learning.
A pencil sharpener is gold in a room full of young, aspiring writers and was greatly missed last year--perhaps mostly by their dear teacher.
A fellow colleague uses a doorbell as an attention-getter for her class. She swears by it as an educator who, like me, loves seeing students deep in team efforts but needs their full attention in a fun and easy manner. I leave work most days feeling like I haven't stopped talking since 7:00 am. I'm in search of anything to help save it for the important things.
