Calculators are a fundamental tool needed to teach all levels of math, especially from sixth grade on. Without any or enough caculators for each student in my class, their ability to learn and follow along as the daily lessons progress will be greatly hindered. Simply explaining the functions and keys they need to learn use on their calculators is not enough. It is extremely important that they get the hands-on practice they need. As technology continues to become increasingly important, calculators will be used more and more by the students of today. It is hard for me to think of a time when I don't allow students to use them in the lessons I teach. Seeing one student without one, upsets me. No student should struggle because we, as teachers/parents, don't have the tools/resources to support them in their learning!
