Art, music, and movement are important components to early learning and mostly missing from our curriculum today. My students learn by creating and taking risks within their environment. The materials and supplies I鈥檝e requested will help facilitate their creativity in the classroom.
My goal this year is to incorporate more movement and creativity into each and every activity. With the help of these materials,鈥 our daily sight word chants will include scarves to 鈥渨rite鈥 our words in the air, balls to bounce out our words, and bean bags to toss the letters to a friend. Counting will be more engaging as we use bells, shakers, and rhythm sticks. The student that might normally find these activities boring might be captivated by breaking apart numbers with two different instruments. The notebooks I鈥檝e requested, as well as, beeswax crayons, liquid watercolor, and colored art chalks will help us to draw out our reflections of the stories we read in class. The emotions of our favorite characters or our own feelings after reading a story will be easily captured. My students will be able to bring their learning to life through the use of these materials.
