These books will help provide my students much needed new choices to read and write about. Having new books to share is a great way to generate excitement about reading.
Several of the biographies are about females who have made a difference in several different fields. I think it is really important for my students to have opportunities to learn about how having a passion for something can lead to creating something that can benefit others. I want them to understand that they too can make a difference.
After my students read the books they will create projects to share with their classmates. For the biographies my students will create trading cards that include important facts about the person they read about using a template on the computer. They will make copies for each of their classmates. This gives my students a chance to be the "teacher!"
