Providing simple hands-on learning materials and manipulative tools challenges students to work out problems while being engaged. Using manipulatives also offers real world scenarios and gives students real life experiences to reflect upon.
Dominoes, plastic coins, place value, graphing chart, and an area and perimeter kit will help with hands-on learning in the classroom, allowing students to demonstrate what they know. The plant lab and eyedroppers will be used in science labs that students carry out. The paper storage center will allow our class to store paper and retrieve it when scaffolding lessons or reviewing previous knowledge.
Our classroom has a magnetic wall, so the magnets will allow us to hang the cursive bulletin board set and assist with the homophone set. We plan to use the social emotional prompt in the morning and tie it into morning meetings.
Lessons will vary as these manipulatives can be used with science and creating experiments, with math and working out problems, or with language arts activities. What’s even better is that math, science, and language arts can be covered in a single lesson with these manipulatives and storage center.
