It can be difficult to find texts with topics that appeal to older elementary students that are also at an appropriate instructional level. Interesting books can be too frustrating for students to read, and more readable books (targeted for younger students) aren't engaging or age-appropriate. That's where Scholastic Magazine comes in.
I am looking to obtain English Language Arts materials that spark the interest of my students that struggle with reading. Scholastic Magazine is a publication that supports key Common Core State Standards related to Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language. Full of differentiated materials, it is a fun and captivating way to tailor instruction for students with learning disabilities. They are motivated to think critically about current events, participate in meaningful dialogue with their peers, and develop crucial reading comprehension skills.
As a SPED teacher, nothing makes me happier than to see a student light up when they understand what they are reading and are excited to learn more. Scholastic Magazine will help my students to develop the skills and confidence they need to achieve success.
