I have chosen water tables for my classroom for their functionality. I will use these tables to serve multiple purposes. One water table will be used to hold sensory objects such as water beads, rainbow rice, or sand.
One water table will also provide an appropriate venue for my scholars to use water to enrich their play experiences. Scholars will have the opportunity to use the water not only to engage their tactile sense, but to also engage their "sixth" sense, proprioception. This sense is the "perception or awareness of the position and movement of the body." Scholars will be able to use the water table to experiment with filling cups, pouring water, and using water to create movement of other objects.
Adding water tables to my classroom will provide an engaging, enriching environment. My scholars will be given the opportunity to engage in intentional play that will aid in the development of important physical and cognitive functions.
