Our school is one of the oldest and lowest socioeconomic schools in Bend. I believe my students deserve a bright, accessible classroom that is equal to the standards of most other newer and more economically stable schools in our district. Even though the building needs love, there are some items that would make this classroom an inviting learning environment to help support and create life long bi-literate, bilingual learners.
Many of my students do not go home to ideal living situations, so I think it's important to create a safe, warm space for students to spend their school day in.
Even though I have taught for over 20 years, it is like I am setting up a classroom as a first year teacher after coming from the last decade as the Reading Specialist at this same elementary school.
I am excited for your help in making our space a place where my students are excited to come and explore and feel supported by colors and systems to support their developing languages.
