Throughout the day, it is my responsibility to identify when/why a student may be struggling and help them come up with solutions to overcome such struggles. Some experiences, lessons, or days can be more challenging for my students. My students sometimes have difficulty coping with frustrating situations and when they are faced with such challenges, they often shut down or produce behaviors that make it difficult for them to participate in the classroom.
Your donation to this project will provide my students with a calm, cozy secure safe place in the classroom where they can go to calm down when they are feeling overwhelmed.
The canopy will provide a sectioned off secure space in which students will feel as if they are in a space where there will be no distractions. Students will know that they can go over to the white canopy when they need a break from being around other individuals. The light blue bean bag is a calming color so students can sit and calm down when they are frustrated. The large pillow can serve many sensory purposes. Students can use it to lean on, sit on, put their feet on and/or squeeze. These items will provide frustrated students with the opportunity to "crash" into them safely.
I cannot emphasize enough what a difference having these items in a calming area will make in my students’ daily lives. I am excited to see my students utilize this area throughout the school year as they learn how to better manage their emotions.
