These books help young children see their world through a deeper lens. Having a rich classroom library allows children to select from a variety of topics that are meaningful to them and that they personally resonate with.
In a time where our brains are drawn towards egocentric-type ways of communicating, I believe these books foster conversations between adults (teachers, parents) and children about where our history has brought us.
Reading expands children's thinking and creates a broader worldview. We need to give our children the tools to celebrate the past and embrace their role in the future. I am honored to have this opportunity to foster strong and courageous thinking in 8 and 9 year olds.
