Over time, expectations for student performance in reading, writing, and math have grown, and they keep growing. In my opinion, we need to start giving back to these students in the form of enrichment activities like music that help build culture, appreciation of individual talents, and self-confidence.
My hope is that these ukuleles will provide my students with a positive release that will help to balance the rigors of reading, writing, and math. Ukulele lessons and practice would be strategically inserted throughout the day as a "brain break" between more rigorous lessons. Another part of this project that I love is the opportunity to have guests from the community share their talents and love of music in my classroom. My students and I would feel truly blessed to have this opportunity. The end result would be allowing every student the opportunity to perform during our annual Christmas program and our spring talent show.
