Having a classroom rug is a necessity in any early childhood classroom. Unfortunately, the rug that we had was removed due to a student who had bed bugs. We used our rug regularly for many different activities including center time and dance breaks!
We greet each other by singing our good morning song and checking in to see how everyone is feeling during our community meetings. We also go over the calendar and sing the days of the week/ months of the year song. The students love listening to me read aloud a good book during reading time or modeling a writer's workshop lesson!
The carpet area is used for guided reading, independent reading and large group instruction. Students especially enjoy working in their small guided reading groups and being given the opportunity to find a special area on the rug to read quietly to themselves.
