One of my favorite parts of the school day is the moment in which I close the novel I am reading to my class - the moment in which I hear things like, 鈥淎w, noooo!! One more chapter! Please! What鈥檚 going to happen next?鈥 Or sometimes, in that moment, we instead sit unified in shocked silence with tears in our eyes - empathizing with the characters and animals we have come to love and know - and with each other. You might not know the extent to which this fills my heart, but you might remember being in grade school, lost in a book that FINALLY hooked you...not even realizing it, until you turned the last page and your heart sank because the journey was over. Or maybe this still happens for you.
These are the moments I鈥檓 asking you to help perpetuate...the moments that a book forever becomes a part of a child, the moments that expand their worldview, or simply - the moments in which they can escape and read for pleasure.
Your contribution will help me continue and build a culture of reading - one that results in students reading books long after grade school - one that will allow them to think back to 6th grade...the year that reading was not a chore, where reading became genuinely enjoyable.
