Coming from a Title-I school, it's really hard for us to get funding to buy books that are not just culturally relevant but also rich in information. These graphic novels will be used as our first read aloud to kick off the school year. We will be analyzing vocabulary, deciphering characterization, unraveling sequence, and exploring culture. We will also tie this into our writing component in class and have students write about what they are reading and how they are feeling throughout this dynamic book.
"Ghosts" (Fantasmas) is a very popular read in 4th grade from our struggling readers to our advanced readers. It's captivating enough to catch their attention and make connections to their own lives.
