The students in my class all have different goals related to social and emotional behaviors. Teaching students with disabilities about friendship, sharing, bullying and expressing feelings requires direct instruction. But, it must also be fun! My students love a silly story, but a silly story about a cute bunny with long ears who helps us learn about social and emotional skills, is even better! By using Howard B Wigglebottoms stories, my students will have a character that they may be able to relate to and then see how he navigates through difficult situations. These stories have great points for class discussions about important social behaviors, while also building literacy skills!
