It is important to acknowledge the benefits to having technology in the classroom. Studies have shown that having access to technology increases the chances of future success by a factor of three. Technology encourages student collaboration and improves engagement and knowledge retention. That is why it is important to me that my kindergarteners have access to technology in my classroom.
By providing an Apple iPad to my classroom, you are fostering the use of technology and providing students an opportunity to build relationships through collaboration. We will be using the iPad for a science unit on the life cycle of a butterfly. We begin the unit by watching a video of a caterpillar on the iPad in small groups. We will grow or our own caterpillars in our classroom and use the iPad to film the caterpillars while we are not in the classroom. It is important that we record the life cycle of the caterpillar with the iPad because students will need to make observations of every stage of their life to fully understand metamorphism. With the use of an iPad in my classroom, students will learn useful life skills while fully engaged in learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.
