My (3rd-8th grade) students work best when they are comfortable and able to have choices in their work environment much like we as adults do. The new furniture gives students different options to work outside of the traditional (and uncomfortable) desks they are accustomed to being in. The comfy chairs, padded cushions for the floor, and alternative seating chair will be comfortable flexible seating areas for our students to work at and read at during our ELA, math and reading classes. The rugs provide a warm and inviting area for our students to sit on while reading and working as well.
Students spend so much of their day in school and classrooms that it is a necessity for them to be as comfortable as possible in their learning environment.
Many of our students have attention problems so having the ability to move and change seating will help decrease some of the behavior issues that arise when they become uncomfortable and bored. Students need flexible seating which provides different ways to collaborate as well as cozy spots to work individually. My students will be able to see that I care about making their learning experience the best it can be because their success in learning is IMPORTANT WORK!
