Don't you love being able to choose a different spot to sit in around your house. Sometimes I like to seat in a couch to write and sometimes it is a table and chair, or sometimes it is on a ball. I know me best and I know which seating option is best for each task. Children are the same way. They know what they need and where they learn best. It is my job as a teacher to give them as many options as possible so that they can discover what works best for them.
By adding flexible seating to my classroom the students are able to be in charge of their own learning.
Students are more motived and engaged in their learning when they have choices. I want to give them as many choices as I can when it comes to their learning and that includes where they are able to sit.
In my classroom now the students have different seating options around the room that they can use during Daily 5( independent reading time) or while I am teaching whole group on the floor.
Where I would like to add to my flexible seating is their desk space for students who want to use a desk, but maybe not a hard, stiff chair. With the wobble chairs, balance disks and exercise ball, I can give them more options. Not only will these increase motivation and engagement it will also help any students who have ADHD, so they can get there wiggles out.
Thank you so much.
