Students at my school are there because a traditional environment did not work for them. They need an alternative environment in order to succeed and graduate high school. One benefit of an alternative environment is the lower student to teacher ratio meaning students receive more individualized support and attention. Another benefit is that students are able to form lasting relationships. Flexible seating is another benefit of an alternative environment which allows students to make decisions about their learning even if those decisions are as simple as where to sit.
When students are given choice in their education, they are better able to take ownership of their own learning.
