Research shows that students who spend time reading independently each day become better students overall. They are able to increase their vocabulary, reading and writing skills, as well as standardized test scores. More importantly, they develop a love for reading and learning. All of the titles that I receive from this project will go directly to my classroom library so they can be put into the hands of my students.
I feel that the most important part of my job as a middle school English teacher is to help my students fall back in love with reading. So many students have lost their early love of spending time with books, and the middle school years are the perfect time to re-ignite that early interest!
