The two items I am requesting provide students with two crucial things for learning in the elementary classroom: comfort/ predictability and communication with parents.
Everyone loves to feel safe and comfortable. Providing students with a rainbow dot rug will give them the opportunity to fully engage in carpet time without distractions of others in their space. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they have a predetermined place to sit on the carpet. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
Parent contact is crucial to building an effective classroom. Classroom mailboxes will make building that relationship so easy and smooth! Instead of shuffling each day to pass out papers, students will simply grab the papers from their mailbox as they leave, and away they go. Having a set place for students to put materials meant for parents will ensure parents are receiving information they need which will help students be successful.
