The addition of these books to our classroom will allow my students to further their love of reading by giving them the chance to explore books on varied topics. Reading allows young students to expand their imaginations, develop voice-print match, expand their vocabulary, and deepen their critical thinking skills.
Additionally, I would also love it if my students were given the opportunity to take responsibility in learning how to properly care for books by having their own book box. Many students do not come to school with this knowledge. They often times need to be shown how to turn pages properly as well as how to put a book away so that the books stay in good condition. Individual book boxes will also help my students have a space of their own to store books that speak to them and inspire them to grow as independent readers.
