When presented with the option of using an iPad or a notebook for reading responses and story writing, my sixth graders choose notebooks! I find this very refreshing as technology use is fast becoming the norm.
When I am able to provide students with new notebooks, colored pencils (because what sixth grader only wants one color!) and section tabs, the motivation for writing and creating increases significantly! Students enjoy adding emphasis with color use, marking areas they need to return to for a re-write, leaving encouraging comments to a peer or drawing diagrams to add detail to their visualization of the story.
I am all about creating a product one can be proud of! These materials will do just that for my sixth graders!
