As a first year teacher in an under-served area, I want to do my best to provide my students with a classroom library that is culturally diverse and relevant to student interest. By providing my students with literature that they can relate to, I will be building connections with them and sparking a greater interest in their learning about themselves and about other cultures.
I also want to create a classroom environment that gives students access to learning, while also creating a motivational sense of community that allows for students to be recognized and accepted as an individual. By keeping only neutral colors in my room and fostering a motivating culture, I can encourage a growth mindset and a safe place for students to take risks with their learning.
