The counting centers will be used in inside my classroom during traditional learning. My 24 kindergarteners will share the materials and practice their counting skills. My students will work in small groups and rotate through counting stations. By providing multiple types of counting stations the students will have multiple opportunities to practice their skills.
Centers are vital in kindergarten because they allow the students to practice multiple skills such as social interactions, sharing, fine motor skills, as well as academic skills. This is very important because for most of my students the only time they have social interactions and academic learning is inside my classroom. I have a high population of English Language Learners. Providing hands on experiences such as counting centers helps them understand what I am teaching. I can say the number five a million times but until I am able to show what five is it does not mean anything to a kindergartener.
