Yoga mats will be able to help provide the students an opportunity to learn and exercise better posture techniques for singing. In my teaching, I like to utilize a lot of physical awareness while singing. Singing is a full body experience, the work is not just happening at the vocal muscles! With these yoga mats, students can learn about stretches and exercises that will bring awareness to areas of tension that they have while singing, similar to Alexander Technique. They can also be utilized for meditation purposes. Research shows that yoga is beneficial for both physical and mental health, which is important in these unique times. Yoga also improves focus, memory, and can even reduce anxiety and stress. These yoga mats can also be used as alternative seating in the classroom for all of my students, apposed to the traditional desk/chair combination that is currently in my classroom. In my own practice as a singer, I have found yoga to be beneficial in many ways and it has improved my singing. Many singers utilize yoga for the same benefits and have found that the process of singing has improved for them. Help me give this chance to my students and help them become the best they can be!
