I really want to incorporate student choice of book clubs in my classroom this year. I have shelves, but very few contemporary and high-interest novels to place on them. I firmly believe that student choice will inspire students to want to read more with more passion. With these selected books, student will have a choice of different culture experiences, types of genres, and books involving characters that are experiencing many of the same trials as my students. If I receive the collection of books from a generous donor, students will have a wide variety of proven contemporary text that will spur intellectual discussions on theme, author's purpose, and a study of how to string words together to create powerful sentences. This will give students many mentor texts to mimic as they explore their narrative, informational, and argumentative texts they will be asked to write.
