Access to flexible seating is something students really enjoy and it has proven to be effective in creating a learning atmosphere that will enable every child to discover his or her unique gifts and talents. The items I have requested including the futon, small area rugs, and student chairs will allow me to create small group areas which will be beneficial for students working collaboratively. These items will also help when I meet with small groups, as well as 1-on-1, in order to better practice reading and writing skills. The larger area rug will be placed in the middle of the classroom closer to the front so that all students have the ability to be in close proximity to the material presented during morning meeting, whole group, and our end of the day meeting known as "Lemon Squeeze".
Teachers and students spend a lot of time at school during the week which is why I call it "our second home". Home is comfortable and enjoyable. Creating this space that they will enjoy is an added piece to the puzzle of me making that happen. I already know exactly where I want to place these items in our classroom and how they will be used. I just need your help getting it there.
