My students will be applying for jobs in my classroom. They will be expected to hold their job for a month. They will be held accountable for doing their job as stated in the job description by completing a form each day and submitting it weekly. Each week they will receive payment for their job. Each Friday, the student run Math Market will open for students to shop with their "money".
These items will give my students incentive to do their job well and in return be paid for their accomplishments. This will provide a very good real life lesson in consumer math throughout the school year. It will also build community within our class. My hope is that my students will experience what it is like to apply for a job, be hired, then paid for doing their job and result in having the ability to buy something they may have been saving for. Also, my students will hold their job for a month, hopefully having the opportunity to try a new job every other month.
