Movement and choice are values of this classroom. Students that are able to make choices in their learning are found to be successful in creating their own strategies to persevere throughout the day.
Flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions throughout the classroom. Comfortable students are calm, focused, and productive. Students also learn better when they have a chance to work together. A classroom with a strong sense of community and collaboration leads to a classroom with a warm demeanor and less behavior issues. With a class of all learning styles, skill levels and needs, this type of seating will give them the ability to move and fidget, yet still get their work completed.
Sensory tools such as timers, headphones, and fidgets are helpful for students who need to wiggle or touch something while working on projects. These tools would also be used in our quiet place as options to help students self regulate their emotions when feeling upset, frustrated, tired, or disengaged.
The headphones will be used daily to help students during their independent work.
