By providing my students with flexible seating options and culturally relevant books will allow them to feel comfortable in an educational space. Providing basic necessities to learn such as erasers, pencils, and white boards I will be able to provide relieve to families who may not be able to afford school supplies.
Through culturally responsive teaching by incorporating library books that students can connect with many students would want to participate. As a first-year teacher I know the importance of allowing students choices and freedom to choose books they feel comfortable with. The books will also enhance the print-rich classroom I strive to create. By bringing these books into my classroom I will be able to bridge my students home culture with school, in order to provide culturally responsive practice.
Incorporating flexible seating students can have the freedom to make choices in their learning. The products I have selected (wobbly chairs, bouncy ball, and back supporter) will give the students empowerment to have some degree of choice over their environment. Flexible seating will also keep the young minds alert and focused. These items in my classroom will make learning fun. Furthermore, because the school is Title I, for many this will be the first time exploring different ways of learning. Help my students have autonomy!
