For the past few years, my students have been creating interactive notebooks in our Algebra 1 class. Any notes, warm-ups, practice work, group assignments, exam reviews and more, are all done in their notebooks. In Algebra 1, there are lots of graphing involved, and it becomes difficult to graph on regular lined paper.
Graph paper makes every mathematician's life a whole lot easier! However, most of my student are from low-income families, and so the cheapest notebook is always the regular lined notebook. I will never deny them the opportunity to participate in class simply because they don't have the appropriate notebook, but it will be a HUGE help if we can all start off the year strong with the proper materials!
