The variety of experiences these items will bring to our students will help to spark their interest in "out-of-the-box" learning. Each of our students have individual access to a Chromebook. Being able to actually put their hands on learning tools will help keep them interested and engaged. Third graders are naturally curious and willing to experiment. They will enjoy the flexibility of both making their "own" project as well as working with one or more partners in a collabortive effort.
We will use these activities to help us see the practical applications of the machines and engineering marvels that we use every day. We will get practical applications for the reasons that directions and rules are important, even for machines, as we work together to feed the Robot Mouse. The engineering set will help give us good foundations in why things are built the way they are, and what the solution may or may not be for the direction we want to go.
