A major focus of our school is to help our students to implement positive coping skills so that they can be active, engaged learners. In order to help them build these skills we need to be able to provide them with access to some of the items that they identify as helpful.
Music is always identified as a key component in our students' lives and a way that helps them drown out the distractions that keep them from focusing. Sleep and rest as well as non-distracting fidgets are also primary requests we get throughout the day.
Many times throughout the day, our students are asked to refocus and take 5-minute breaks. This is a daunting task when five minutes seems like forever. Timers are a great way to help relieve the anticipation and watching the sand is a soothing distractor.
The more we are able to provide our student with the resources they need to be successful, the better their overall school experience is.
