My students are from low-income, crime filled areas and I want my classroom to feel safe for them. By creating a safe home environment my students can forget about their outside lives - if only for 2 hours out of the day. I teach 6th and 7th grade Language Arts. Literature is a part of our every day curriculum; my students will also escape mentally through the books they will read.
These materials will allow my students access to a variety of mental stimuli that will enhance their overall academic performance. By using the cricut machine and printer, I will be able to design a space that realistically feels like home with personalized items. The books will allow students choice in a classroom fueled by self motivation. My students will become part of the 21st century thus propelling my plan to give them equity in an otherwise non equitable society.
