As a second year teacher, I am still in the process of building my classroom library. I want to be able to give my students books that are at their reading levels as well as those that interest them. The books that I picked out for this project will help instill their love of reading.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and I want to them to be able to relate to the books they are reading. By giving them books that discuss different topics such as divorce, race, poverty, etc., they are able to have more interest in the books they are reading and know that they are not alone. When a student can relate to a book that they are reading, the excitement in their eyes is amazing to see. I want to be able to provide this to my students.
